Peer-reviewed research supporting compounded therapies
Compounding pharmacy allows healthcare providers to customize medications for individual patient needs -- adjusting dosages, combining ingredients, or changing delivery forms. The research below highlights some of the evidence behind the therapies we compound.
Low-dose naltrexone for the treatment of fibromyalgia
Participants receiving 4.5 mg daily of naltrexone experienced significantly greater reduction of baseline pain compared to placebo (28.8% vs 18.0% reduction). The treatment also improved life satisfaction and mood, with 32% of participants meeting response criteria vs 11% during placebo.

This pilot trial demonstrated that low-dose naltrexone (4.5 mg daily) produced significant clinical improvements in patients with active Crohn's disease. 89% of patients showed therapeutic response, with 67% achieving full remission.

Patients who smoked during inpatient treatment experienced significantly higher opioid craving and lower completion rates. The combination of very low-dose naltrexone with clonidine proved most effective at reducing both smoking behavior and cigarette craving.
Read Full StudyThe Potentials of Methylene Blue as an Anti-Aging Drug
This review examines methylene blue (MB), an FDA-approved compound with antioxidative properties, as a potential therapeutic agent for age-related conditions. MB improves mitochondrial function and reduces reactive oxygen species production, demonstrating promise in treating neurodegeneration, memory loss, skin aging, and progeria.
Read Full StudyEfficacy of Semaglutide in a Subcutaneous and an Oral Formulation
Clinical trials in the SUSTAIN and PIONEER programs demonstrated that semaglutide effectively reduces HbA1c levels and body weight across both subcutaneous and oral formulations. Once-weekly subcutaneous semaglutide 1.0 mg reduced HbA1c by 1.5-1.8%, with oral formulations achieving 1.0-1.4% reductions.
Read Full StudyThe Role of Pharmaceutical Compounding in Promoting Medication Adherence
This review examines how customized pharmaceutical compounding addresses medication non-adherence by tailoring medicines to individual patient needs. The authors propose patient-centric compounding design methodology with applications in pediatric and geriatric populations, orphan drug treatment, and managing polypharmacy.

This multidisciplinary study evaluated compounded testosterone topical gels through clinical case assessment, laboratory permeation testing, and stability analysis. A 70-year-old patient on 5% testosterone gel showed symptom improvement and optimal serum levels, with formulations remaining stable for six months.

This chapter examines HRT as treatment for moderate-to-severe vasomotor menopausal symptoms. It covers estrogen and progesterone formulations, administration routes (oral, transdermal, vaginal), evidence-based dosing, contraindications, and monitoring protocols contextualized within Women's Health Initiative trial findings.
Read Full StudyWhat is Compounding Pharmacy?
Compounding is the practice of creating personalized medications tailored to the specific needs of individual patients. Unlike mass-produced drugs, compounded medications can be customized in strength, dosage form, and ingredients.
This is especially important for patients who need medications that are no longer commercially available, require allergy-free formulations, or need alternative delivery methods like topical creams and solutions.
At T&H Pharmacy, our team of licensed pharmacists and technicians compound medications under strict quality controls in our state-of-the-art facility. Every formulation is prepared to meet USP standards.
We specialize in dermatology, men and women's health (including bioidentical HRT), veterinary, pain management, and more!
